I have an approximately 7 month old male African pygmy hedgehog and I am concerned about his quill coat.?
This is the first hedgehog I have owned and while I did do a lot of research before getting him, I'm still a little nervous because I want my Vinnie to be well taken care of. From what I have read, it could be him quilling or it could be mites. He does have dry skin but I haven't seen any signs of actual mites. On the other hand, he does occasionally lose a quill or two but I don't see any new ones trying to come in. I just see him compared to pictures of other hedgehogs and while he seems just fine he seems to have fewer quills than maybe he should. I will probably take him to the vet just to be sure, but I wanted to see if anyone had any advice. I want to learn as much as I can. Even though he can be a wee bit grumpy at times (like many hedgies) I love him very dearly. Thank you in advance!
