Can i take my african pygmy hedgehog to france?
I am going to answer this question as if you are now in the USA going to France and then returning to the USA. You would need to check with both U.S. and French Customs and Agriculture authorities, as rules regarding the international travel of live animals frequently change. You should be able to find answers at a french embassy or consulate, possibly by phone. Be sure to get the full name and position of who you speak to at both French and U.S. agencies and write everything down. Keep in mind that you may have difficulties returning to the USA with the hedgehog, so find out about that also. You will also want to check with the airlines you will be using. Most U.S. airlines allow very few types of animals to fly in the cabin (usually only dogs and cats), but airlines from other countries are generally more liberal. Please visit our web site to know who we are, and, if you would like, send me an email (mgspikers@aol.com) and I can send you our toll free telephone number. That number may come in handy upon your return to the USA if U.S. officials try to confiscate and/or quarantine your hedgehog. The organized hedgehog community in North America may be able to intervene on your behalf or get any imposed quarantine placed with a USDA licensed hedgehog facility. By the way, wild hedgehogs are a protected species in France, and the French do not eat them. The only group of people known to eat hedgehogs (and use their hides to card wool) are Gypsies. Best wishes, Z. G. Standing Bear at The Flash and Thelma Memorial Hedgehog Rescue in Divide, Colorado USA, USDA Class C (zoo/exhibitor) licensed facility
