Any other way to cut Pygmy Hedgehog nails?

My hedgehog is really lively, so it's a little impossible. His nails are starting to grow pretty long... I've heard you can put sandpaper on his wheel or a brick? Would that really harm their feet or is it safe? Is there anything else I could do?
