African pygmy hedgehog?

hi im getting a pygmy hedgehog at the end of july and was wondering what type of heating to keep them warm as my house isn't the most warmest place.i have a large guinea pig cage and the man in the pet shop said a heat mat will this not melt the plastic bottom of my cage or burn my hedgehog. ive seen lots of people say just use a snugly bed for them but i would be still scared of them going into hibernation and especially in the winter any ideas would be great also brands and watt would be good thanks.
